Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Dr Rehema Nchimbi, has
called upon religious leaders to sensitise Tanzanians to participate in
the national census scheduled for August 26.
The RC made the remarks during her meeting
with clerics from various religious denominations. The meeting aimed at
discussing the role of religious leaders in the forthcoming national
census exercise in order to ensure that it is successfully implemented.
She said that clerics have a big role to play to ensure suscceful
implementation of the exercise because they lead groups of people and
have better understanding of the matter.
“You should educate your followers on the
importance of participating in census”, she said. She also urged them to
pray for the nation so that every citizen takes part in the census on
August 26, this year. She said apart from the people, this year’s
national census will involve other aspects including livestock. Dr
Nchimbi urged census will help the government to plan for development
programmes and services with accordance to actual needs, adding census
is a must for all citizens and that information provided will remain
confidential and used for targeted purposes only.
For their part, leaders of different
religious denominations based in Dodoma region said they are willing to
cooperate with the government to ensure the exercise is successful.
Speaking on behalf of the Dodoma Islamic
Development Foundation, its secretary general Alhaj Hussein Janab said
they are currently sensitising the people to take part in census. Rev
